Last Saturday, I had the honour of hosting a women’s circle for the Way of One community—a deeply nourishing day centred around something close to my heart: food preservation as a sacred act of care.
We gathered in a gentle, grounded space to explore the art of preserving not just food, but knowledge, tradition, and connection. Together, we leaned into a few simple hands-on projects—making jam, fridge pickles, and sharing stories over cups of tea.
🫙 What We Made
-
Freezer jam – A soft, sweet entry point into preserving that doesn’t require any special equipment—just fresh fruit, lemon, sugar, and love.
-
Fridge pickles – Crisp, colourful, and packed with flavour. Easy to make and ready within a day or two.
-
Water bath canning demo – A simple introduction to long-term storage, showing that this ancient method is still accessible today.
There was something truly sacred in the rhythm of chopping, stirring, pouring, and sealing. No rush. No pressure. Just the remembering of an older way—where nourishment was seasonal, intentional, and communal.
🌿 What I Shared
Over the past five years, I’ve learned so much about preserving food from a place of empowerment rather than overwhelm.
From slow experimentation to pantry failures and flavour wins, what I’ve come to know is this:
-
You don’t have to do it all to get started.
-
Simple things done consistently bring the most transformation.
-
Preserving food is an act of self-reliance—and self-love.
In a world that often feels chaotic, there is something profoundly calming about lining jars on a shelf, knowing you’ve created a little stability with your own hands.
🤍 A Circle of Connection
More than just a workshop, this day felt like a weaving.
Of wisdom. Of community. Of ancestral remembering.
I’m so grateful to Way of One for holding space for this gathering—and to each woman who showed up open and curious.
✨ Want to start preserving at home?
You don’t need a lot—just a desire to nourish yourself and your loved ones in a deeper way.
Start with one small project. Feel the satisfaction. Honour the process. Let it become part of your sacred rhythm.
With gratitude and sticky fingers,
Kelly x
